BRACT

noun BOTANY

a modified leaf or scale, typically small, with a flower or flower cluster in its axil. Bracts are sometimes larger and more brightly colored than the true flower, as in poinsettia.

Bract is an Art Nouveau inspired outdoor chair, which is tailored to the college aged individual. The seat angles allow for the user to lounge comfortably but also be present in a conversation. The visual design draws from the plant motifs, curves, and silhouettes often seen in the Art Nouveau design movement.

It has a sculpted form made of hand cut pieces from a slab of red oak lumber which were routed and sanded to create a round edge. The backrest comes in at a 5 degree angle and the seat splays out at the same angle in order to mimic the look of petals. The finish is a beeswax coating, allowing the natural color and grain of the wood to shine through.
